So I’m new to this whole blog thing, but i think I’ll give it a try.
A double entendre is a word or phrase that has two different meanings and in some cases two completely different meanings. One example I found “Children make nutritious snacks”, that obviously can be taken in two completely different ways and that example may seem ridiculous yet many of us live with that mentality; whether we know it or not.
Then what’s a double entendre life style? Let’s start that with the question, what does it mean to truly follow Christ? I can definitely tell you what it’s not. It’s definitely not living a double entendre, it’s not going to church and living as a Christian who has it together and than changing as soon as you’re around the “in crowd” or people who have different believes. A double entendre life style can be one of the easiest because you have God when you need Him, when it’s convenient and beneficial to you. Along with that you live the life you want, making decisions based on solely on yourself, joining in on the jokes and actions of others, having fun by doing what you think is best and then asking God to solve your problems. It seems like a good life right? You have God on the side for when you need access to Him and you are able to live however you want, but here’s the thing you’re letting the world run your life and wasting it while doing so. You can’t be a Christian in your free time.
- Galatians 5:1 says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
- Romans 8:12 “So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.”
- Ephesians 4:22 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires.”
See a pattern? When we ask Christ to come into our life we’re asking Him to take over. We’re asking Him to take all the worldly things we have built up in our mind, heart, and around us and asking Him to be our main priority. When you ask God to come and TAKE OVER your life it’s not something done lightly, when we do this we are changing our identity and essentially get rid of it so Christ can be our identity. The old has gone and not only has it gone, but God has conquered and destroyed it. All you past mistakes and desires are forgotten so you can live a new life in Him. While it’s not an immediate accept Christ problems solved, it’s something better than that. It’s a new gift of life, and you are the only person who can accept that gift. God is the only one who can give it. If this is something so big and amazing why would we do anything other than show it to others and tell them they can have the same thing? God gives us a guarantee that can never be taken away, a guarantee that He will love us and give us new life, that we will live with Him forever. No loopholes. You have someone who will never turn His back on you, someone that will love you unconditionally, and someone that no matter what will always be there for you, so why wouldn’t you do the same?
